The Bromeliad is a tropical plant much appreciated for its bright and varied colors, thus infusing an exotic touch into an interior. This plant has the particularity of not flowering only once. Its flowering lasts between 3 to 6 months. To prolong the life of these pretty flowers in your interior, here are some necessary tips.

As we explained to you, the flower of the Bromeliad usually lasts 3 to 6 months. The idea is to be careful not to remove the inflorescence immediately but to wait for the appearance of a few suckers to cut the faded flower.

The Bromeliad flower indeed forms shoots which will subsequently allow a new plant to grow, and thus to flower in turn.
At the end of flowering of your Bromeliad and after the appearance of suckers, cut the inflorescence (also called floral stem).

Then keep the plant mother to collect the new shoots that it will make at the base of the plant. As soon as the suckers seem sufficient grown (at least 5 cm), carefully pick them up, making sure to keep the roots. Plant them in a mixture of orchid compost. Water them and make sure that your new planting is placed in a relatively warm place.

Note that some replanted suckers can take several years before they can flower again. However, we have a little trick that will help you make your Bromeliad flower faster.

Simply wrap your Bromeliad in a plastic bag and place an apple inside, next to your plant. The apple will thus promote faster flowering. Keep in mind that you will still have to be patient before your Bromeliad finds an inflorescence... but believe us, it's worth it!
